Emmaus House / Camp Mikell Program

Begun as a pilot project during the summer of 2001, this exciting program began a new partnership between Emmaus House and the diocesan Mikell Camp and Conference Center. Young adults from the Mikell Summer Staff came to Emmaus House to live and work during one of their sessions at summer camp, allowing them a hands-on experience of urban ministry and a chance to work with the kids in the Emmaus House Summer Program, who attend Camp Mikell at the end of their program. This allowed new relationships in both directions and enriched the summers of everyone involved.

The Emmaus/Mikell Project, has won two awards. The American Camping Association (ACA) awarded its Eleanor P. Eels Award in2005 and the Southeastern Section of the ACA awarded the Edie Klein Award for Program Excellence.

The project is funded by an Episcopal Charities Foundation grant and parish gifts.
